Overview

Lumenrate sells annuity data. Carriers, distributors, and advisors depend on it to know what products exist, what the rates are today, what riders come attached, and how the market moved last quarter. The problem was that the data lived in too many places at once. Rates arrived from carriers in spreadsheets and emails. Product details sat in files nobody owned. Prospectus filings landed on SEC EDGAR, and someone had to read them. Every customer wanted the same data in a different shape, so the team was rebuilding files by hand every week. Lumenrate needed one set of annuity data underneath and separate products on top of it, each built for a different audience. That turned into seven platforms delivered over a multi-year engagement, all reading from and writing back to the same core.

Challenges & Solutions

1

Annuity data never arrives in one shape. Fixed, Indexed, and Variable products each carry their own rate structures, riders, and death benefit rules, and every carrier files them differently, so one structure had to hold all of it without losing the differences.

2

No two recipients wanted the same file. One needed a daily export over secure transfer with fixed rates only. Another wanted a weekly drop covering riders and product changes. Building each by hand ate the week and mistakes still slipped through undetected.

3

SEC EDGAR posts annuity and mutual fund filings constantly, and the fund change buried deep inside a prospectus is the part that matters. Reading those by hand left Lumenrate several days behind the market, and the filing volume kept climbing every quarter.

4

Rate data reaches advisors who then quote it to clients, so a wrong number becomes a real problem fast. Carriers still needed to upload their own rate tables, nothing could publish without a check, and anything incorrect needed a clean reversal path.

Solutions by Bacancy

1

Everything starts with one clean data set. We built a portal where product data is entered in its real hierarchy, business groups down to riders and rates, versioned and held until someone approves it. Our data engineers then mapped every carrier’s rate structure into that shared model, so scheduled feeds go out shaped to each recipient’s fields and format, checked before they leave.

2

The market intelligence side runs as a subscription portal. Carriers and distributors log in to see quarterly annuity sales broken out by company, product, channel, and period. Dashboards sit on the front, around sixteen report types sit behind them, and an analyst can move from a whole market view down to one competitor. Everything exports to Excel for their own internal reporting models.

3

Advisors were pulling rates from a dozen carrier sites into their own spreadsheets. We centralized that data and built two tools on it: a comparison platform for products, benefits, and riders side by side, and an Angular app for running benefit illustrations. Both generate branded, compliance-ready output, so a rate sheet or a client proposal is now a download instead of an afternoon.

4

Two pieces keep the data current. An AI pipeline scans SEC EDGAR daily, reads dense prospectus text, and pulls out fund changes, sending only unclear cases to a human. Switchboard takes the other side, letting carriers load rates through checks, review, and sign off, every step logged and reversible. Our insurance IT services team built both, with multi-factor login on all carrier accounts.

Outcomes

7 connected platforms now run on one shared annuity data core across the full Lumenrate business.

80% of SEC filing reviews now clear without a single person opening the full prospectus document.

Rate sheets that once took 3 hours now generate branded and compliance-ready in under 60 seconds.

16 report types run inside the market intelligence portal, every one of them exportable to Excel.

100% of published rate changes connect to a named approver, with rollback available at any point.

0 hours spent building recurring feed files by hand since the delivery framework first went live.
